I got plenty of stories, but one around my current passion for growing the sport was back in 2003 after the Paul Giles Memorial (great guy) in Athens TX. I was enjoying a cold frost one with some of the players and included in this group were two ladies. Ginneta Chamberlin and Julie Steal. They were basically bitching about how the lady players were over looked and felt that disc golf as a whole did not recognize female players. Well I went on to say that they were playing in a man’s tournament. Of course that went over well but I then said that ladies needed their own tournaments. This was a catalyst for the challenge laid out to me by two very………let’s say passionate ladies to run a ladies only event. From this conversation, the Texas Women’s Championship was born in 2005 and as of last year, it was the largest attended women’s event in PDGA history.
