GREG'S FAVORITES

FAVORITE VIBRAM STORY: Recently I won my first event of the year by seven in a 21 person pro division. The baskets are really old and it was windy. Before the Ridge I didn't have the confidence to go for a lot of putts that I made that day. Be strong enough to have the confidence to go for putts and mentally strong enough to deal with any consequences.

Three Favorite Vibram Discs

Ridge - This is my go to putter. It has great rigidity and doesn't beat in. With the Ridge, I don't need to change my putter three times a year because the characteristics change. It has extraordinary grip for a smooth release and chain grabbing ability.

VP - I use this for flick and hyzer approaches and as a wind putter. Putting into a raging headwind, it gives me confidence because I can count on it to hold a line. It is a beefy over-stable workhorse in my bag. This disc can take a beating, it's bulletproof.

Lace - Wow, it's fast. I love throwing the long bombs at Wickham with it. It found its way into my bag so quickly, exactly what I was looking for. Overstable just enough to handle power. Glides better than any other driver.
Favorite Ace Story: Recently got my First Vibram ace at the 17th RI Frostbite on hole 18 from the medium tees. I threw a medium ridge for the 200 ft hole, looked good all the way. Last year I hit an ace at the same tournament on 18 from the short tee. It was however a different hole since the holes have been renumbered.

Favorite Courses:
North Calais, VT - Field of dreams.
Maple Hill, MA - Challenging mentally, no time to feel comfortable or take a break.
Warwick, NY - Many variations.
Wickham Park, CT - Home course, well manicured and a big arm's paradise.
So many great course I haven't played yet.

Favorite Tournaments:
USDGC: They treat all the players and volunteers very well. So much great history and attention to detail.
Vibram Open - A lot of fun things to compete at and so many friends to catch up with.

ADVICE FROM A PRO

Don't pick a up a disc unless you want to have fun. Practice putting, driving and approaching. Find a field and try different things. Identify your areas to improve and focus your efforts on these areas. Be confident when you throw and be strong enough to deal with any consequences. Have fun when you play and enjoy your surroundings.

GETTING THE JOB DONE - THE VIBRAM WAY

Greg Wintrobs wins Maple Hill VI

Picture
5/22/11 - Team Vibram's Greg Wintrob wins Maple Hill VI in commanding fashion. After shooting a course record 49 on the Maple Hill Whites, Gregger backed it up with a 63 on the tweaked Maple Hill Golds, good enough for a 12 stroke victory.

Well done Greger! Here's a little (more!) front page love.

Greger wins some more!

4/24/11 - Team Vibram's Greg Wintrob gets the win at the Sherwood Island Open.

Cool facts from the event:
  1. He shot a couple of 1020+ rated rounds
  2. He got second his last four events and is very happy to finally walk to the podium a winner
  3. The trophy that he won is a disc that he dyed for the tournament!

Well done Greger! Here's a little front page love.

Greg uses Nickel to win Buff Doubles Charity event

2/19/11 - Team Vibram's Greg Wintrob partnered with Jack Nickel to take down the Buffumville Dam Doubles Charity event put on by David Stidham (center). They won by six strokes and possibly made it look a little too easy. Rumors are flying that they may have set a new course record of 48.

Well done Greg and Jack. Keep up the great golfing, stay healthy, and stay warm.

Greg is pictured on the left and swears his Vibram shirt is under the coat. Thank goodness he is at least stylishly sporting his Quabaug / Vibram head gear.

Greger wins going away.

2/12/11 - In a nail biter, Team Vibram player Greg Wintrob won the 16th Rhode Island Frostbite Classic. By 21 strokes!

2/13/11 - He followed up the victory with a second place finish with partner Jack Nickel at the Tolland Dubs, part of the New England Doubles Series. Jeff Cahill and Sjur Soleng got the win.

All in all, 90 holes of disc golf, a first and a second, and the cheesy grin that we have come to know and love never once left his face. A great weekend Greg!
